The Beauty of Pinup and Commercial Art

This is a blog about men and women as seen throughout the history of advertising and pinup art. Art has always reflected the distinct diversity and beauty of both sexes respectively. Just as there is a moon, there is a sun, a night and day, cold and hot...male and female. It is the very sustenance of Nature.

Coca-Cola 1957

The ad above is for Coca-Cola from 1957. There is a lot of activity and intimate tension going on between the couples. They are all having a great holiday time, but there is also plenty of flirting going on: the couple by the fireplace, the girl holding the man's wrist while pouring coca-cola into his glass, and the girl in the background tempting the man outside with...coca-cola. The hidden message seems to be that if you drink coca-cola, it will lead to more...fun things in life.

This ad may not be considered "sexy" by today's standards and "in your face" advertising, but it certainly does have a lot of great taste and sensibility, which is sorely lacking today. Personally I find the suggestiveness in this ad depicting male/female relationships, sexier than many ads today.
